4/6/2008 I changed my mind on when to paint the tailwheel parts, so rather than roll the airplane on it's gear today, I took the tailwheel parts off to prime and paint them. They'll be fully dried tomorrow and ready to go back on. No pics of that. While those were drying, I worked on a couple of other things that needed to be done at some point. Since I am using a 320, the mount is long enough that the firewall recess is not needed. I bought the FW plate a while back from Van's, and today I finally drilled the holes. This is not a prepunched part, so all the holes had to be laid out based on measurements. I hate working with stainless steel.
I noticed yesterday that I have a rub where the gear tubes pass by the firewall on both sides.
So today, my dad swung on over to help me with this. We took the engine mount off the firewall with the gear legs still attached. While he held that assembly up, I made two quick trims, clean them up, and then we put the mount/gear right back on the firewall.
A little touch up paint on the mount, and I'll be good to go! So, I didn't get the airplane rolling on it's gear today...sometime this week though. 2.25 hours |
