8/12/2006 I had a goal this morning to get my landing lights done, and get the LE's riveted to the spar. Well, I made it halfway. In the middle of working this afternoon, I had to run to work to get some supplies, when my newly acquired motorcycle almost stranded me. Not a big deal, just a missing bolt on the left foot peg that took away the ability to shift. That put a three hour damper in my work schedule today. Anyway, I did get the lights finished and installed. It was sort of a trick getting the four screws in place, but once I figured out how to do it, it wasn't so bad. The pic on the right shows the weather stripping really well.
My idea to put the platenuts on with epoxy didn't work. They popped off before I could even try 'em out. Then I decided to put them on with double sided tape.
This didn't work either. I decided to risk it, and set the platenuts with MK-319BS pop rivets right to the plexi. This, believe it or not, worked great! I should've done this for the bottom of each lens, but those were already lined up nicely. I left the double sided tape to make it easier to set the platenuts in the correct position, and it won't be seen anyway.
Then I installed the lenses, and the landing lights are FINISHED!!!
Tomorrow I'm planning on heading to a fly-in over in Indiana, but I should have time in the morning to get the LE's on the spars. I'm SO happy these lights are DONE! 3.25 hours Previous Next Index RV-7 Home |
