8/20/2006 Today was one of those PERFECT days in Illinois, and I took full advantage of it by working on the airplane in the morning and playing a round of golf in the late afternoon. I got an EARLY start this morning since Brit got up and left around 7a.m. I pressurized the left tank again to check for leaks, and found none, so I started installing the tanks on the spar. Lot's of screws and bolts, but they're on and torque'd.
I dug the top skins out of the airplane storage room, and made the scarf joint on each inboard skin. I see why this is done, but don't really think it's all that necessary. I can't see it making that much of a difference, other than looks, so I didn't spend much time on it.
Then I got the top skins all cleco'd in place. There's a TON of cleco's needed to do both wings at the same time!!
Things are lookin' good to get the wings off the stands by next weekend! Hopefully I can coax my dad in to coming over to rivet the skins! 4.25 hours After lunch, and before golf, I made the cradle to hold the wings once they are off the stands. I did this with a previously built cradle that was set up for holding the wings with carpet straps. I removed those, and used one of my leading edge/fuel tank cradles to make it.
