8/8/2006 Well this landing light project is REALLY taking some time. I've had to make and remake a few pieces, and just when I think I've got it right...frustrating, but I'm still enjoying it. I remade the retainer strips out of .032 so that I can countersink for the rivets, rather than dimple both the strips and the platenuts.
Then I riveted the platenuts on to the strips.
Those came out ok, but I may need to adjust the hole size slightly to get the screw in there. Not a big deal. Here comes the hard part of tonight's work. I really struggled to get the bend right in the top strip to match the rounded top portion of the plexi. I knew this would be an issue, and it's still not quite right, but I'll get it done one way or the other.
I may end up using some pop rivets to rivet the platenut right to the plexi...we'll see how well these line up first. I did get some weather striping installed on the left LE hole to try and keep out any water.
Time consuming for very little progress tonight. 2.0 hours Previous Next Index RV-7 Home |
