8/18/2008 Well it has been seven days, and the paint on the engine is now cured. So, it's time to put it back together! We started promptly at 5pm, and didn't quite finish by 9:30pm when we called it a night. We still have the oil return lines, and the intake tubes to install, and I have to safety several things, then we'll preserve it with the Tanis Engine Preservation Kit I bought. Before we installed the cylinders, I wanted to pull the pistons out of the barrels to make sure the rings were installed properly. They all were, but now I know for sure.
Here we have the first two cylinders installed...
After all four cylinders were on and the nuts torqued, we started on the valve train and push rods.
At the end of the night, this is what we had...
The lighting is terrible in the hangar with the yellow mercury lights, so I think it will look even better when I get it in natural light!
I am SO thrilled about how this turned out!! The plated rocker covers are gold colored, and to me, that's the perfect final touch! Tomorrow, we'll get the rest of the stuff installed, and get it set up for preservation. 4.5 hours |
