8/20/2008 Today I had several of the guys from the shop help me get the engine off the stand and back on to the hoist so I could add preservative oil. I wanted to do this on the hoist so I could tip the engine in all directions to get the oil coverage over the crank if I could. First I plugged the bottom plug holes with screw in plugs, then added the preservative oil thru the filler tube. Then I immediately tipped the engine forward, backward, and side to side to try and cover everything that didn't get covered when we put the engine together. Then the desiccant plugs were put in. Here's how it hangs tonight. I used electrical tape around the hoist loop to try and protect the paint. I also put red electrical tape on the prop flange to protect it from scratches if it bumps anything while putting it back on the pallet later.
We braced the jack on the hoist because it tends to leak down, and I also put a set of used Learjet tires under the engine just as a precaution if something decided to let go. The engine is about 6 inches above the tires. Here are the desiccant plugs up close...
And one more shot...because I can!
I hope to get the engine back on the pallet tomorrow, and might bring it home over the weekend...if I can figure out where to put it. 1.0 hour |
