8/23/2008 Battling allergies in the garage this morning, I did get a couple things done before I couldn't take it anymore. The next three or four weeks are gonna SUCK! First, I unmasked the flywheel from painting it last night.
The I used the Dremel tool and a couple of attachments to clean up the back side of the flywheel, but didn't take any pics of that. Then I moved on the the VA-168 manifold transducer. The fittings have to be installed before the transducer goes on the firewall, otherwise the fittings will hit the firewall, and won't screw in. I brought some Tite Seal home from work to use on the fittings. I'm not sure if the top one will be used or not yet, so I'm not cutting it off at this point.
The plans call for installing that with nuts on the back of the screws, but I'm using plate nuts wherever I can, so I did that here.
It'll make things so much easier down the road for maintenance. Next I installed the battery and master contactors to the firewall. Pretty simple matter of installing the bolts in to the plate nuts. I also installed the fittings on the gascolator with Tite Seal, which you can see pointed out with the arrow.
The only other thing I did before I couldn't handle the sneezing any longer, was to smear some firewall sealant around the brake fluid reservoir pentration. I should've done this long ago, but for some reason never did.
After spending most of the afternoon inside on the couch watching the Cardinal game, a thunderstorm brewed up from the west. With that coming across, and everything getting wet, my allergies subside somewhat. Back to the garage! This evening I started by checking to make sure my engine had the oil and breather fittings installed...it does, then I reinstalled the engine mount. I need to get a torque wrench that will torque the nuts down, so it's on, but not "final" installed yet. Torque and cotter pins will take care of that.
Then I riveted in the firewall cover. I am not using the recess since my engine mount is the longer one. The oil filter fits without needing the recess. I ran a bead of firewall sealant around, then installed the plate...as you can see, I put another little personal touch in to this...
Then I reinstalled the battery box with AN3 bolts.
My allergies were still getting back to fairly bothersome at this point, and I'm hungry, so it's time to quit for the night. 4.0 hours |
