8/6/2008 No building tonight. I had planned to start working on the engine tonight, but it didn't work out. The first thing I need to do, is get it out of the crate. I was hoping that I could lift the crate high enough with the floor jack to get the hoist over the engine. Didn't work. I need to get the forklift to do it. Unfortunately, there are too many airplanes in the way to get it back to the crate in the hangar. Tomorrow, I'll move the crate to the front of the hangar so I can get to it easily. We are planning on taking it apart Friday night so I can paint it over the weekend. I need to get the preservative oil out of it by tomorrow so it'll be ready on Friday. Anyway, a couple things are worth noting this week. I sent the check to Vetterman for the exhaust today, so that'll be in soon. I also placed the FWF order with Van's. I deleted a LOT of stuff from their kit. A big portion of the delete was the engine hoses. These will be coming from Bonaco. I met with those guys at Oshkosh, and they had a sample of their hoses with the required fire sleeve. It's really nice stuff, and the price *should* be better than Van's. We'll see. I also came up with a few freebies at work this week. I don't know that I'll use any of these, but this is what I got... An unused life preserver came out of the Lear 35 because it's expired calendar-wise. Being used in the certified world, there are limits on everything, whether used or not.
Same thing with this cockpit fire extinguisher. It's out of the Lear, but never used.
That may be put in the airplane. The last thing I got, is this oxygen bottle out of our Pilatus PC-12. It's labeled expired as well, and I know NOTHING about these. I'm gonna do some research to see what the deal is with it. I have no plans to put oxygen in, but I guess one never knows.
Hopefully the engine stuff can get rolling tomorrow... |
