8/14/2009 Today was a great airport day! This morning I helped my hangar neighbor, RV-7A builder, and great friend Terry Wendling make his first engine start. Rob Johnson also was there to lend his experienced guidance. After that, we all headed over to CJ's, the airport restaurant, for lunch, then I had to go in to work for a couple hours to close a sale on a Cessna 182, and finally back over the hangar to work on my RV for a while... I sanded the rough spots and high areas on the back of the plenum, then fit it. Still a bit of work to do back there, but I'm getting close...
I got my small inlet ring back from my friend that polished it for me, and it looks freakin' awesome!! I marked the line that I need to trim out so I can install it tomorrow...
Back to the plenum...it was time to 'glass the front of the plenum to the contour of the engine. I laid down some plastic with packing tape on top of that, and then laid two layers of fiberglass down. I'm gonna let these two layers cure tonight, then take the plenum off the engine to lay up a couple more layers on the bench tomorrow.
Both sides are looking pretty good, but we'll see what I have tomorrow... I also set some rivets tonight that were on the list of things to do "at some point". There are four rivets that I'll probably have to move the exhaust over to set (arrows). That sorta sucks because I have the stacks set up PERFECTLY. Oh well...just have to do it again!
