8/15/2009-Yippee skippy...I'm 32 today... I had to work on my airplane at least a short while today! In between phone calls and emails for well wishes, I did get some work done...I removed the plastic and tape from the engine to check and see what I ended up with from yesterday's work...turned out pretty damn good!
A couple shots from either side, underneath, to show the much tighter the clearance is now...
I took the plenum off the engine and set it on the bench to do some more 'glass work...more on that in a moment. Before I mixed up some epoxy for the plenum, I wanted to get the carb air intake ring ready so I could work all of today's epoxy at the same time. I opened up the inlet on the cowl for the ring to fit...
Then I taped up with opening with packing tape, and set the ring in place.
Next I mixed up some epoxy and flox to pour around the ring...it's never coming out...
Before getting to the plenum...I laid down a layer of fiberglass cloth around the air inlet ring moldings just to be on the safe side if the molding ever popped loose from handling.
Finally, back to the plenum...I laid down two layers of cloth on the inside of the plenum to add some strength, and to get get a bit closer to the engine block for a better seal.
Looks kinda fugly there, but it will have a nice close finish when it's done. Time for lunch with my parents, then wait for Brit to get home, then off to a BBQ... 2.0 hours |
