12/12/2009 Good day on the airplane today. Brit was in the Chicago area with the dogs, so I had the day to work on the project. I got tired of looking for a fastener for the AOA lines over the last couple of weeks, and finally just decided to zip tie them to each rib using #30 holes I drilled. I used two zip ties per rib and on the lines. Using two makes a nice standoff from the rib so the vinyl hose doesn't rub the rib.
This took a long time to do, but I got all but the inner most ribs (under the wing walk) done. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the lines over the inner wing walk ribs...access is nearly impossible, but I'm going to try to figure something out. I went ahead and put the inspection panel/AOA probe back on the wing...
Then I put safety wires on the tank bolts. This is something that I should've done back when I put the wings on, but kept forgetting about. I had a note to remind myself to do it, and today was the day to drill the hole, and put some safety wire in place.
I still have some issues to deal with as far as set up of the Enigma goes (the IOX data line is still causing a fault for the horizon and compass), but I'm gonna take a break from that for now. Time to work on fitting the spinner...and time to go back to reading the instructions! I can't remember the last time I looked at the instruction manual! First, I cleco'd the front skin on, and then put the cowl back on the airplane. I'm not sure I have to do this to fit the spinner, but I want to make sure the gap is good. First pic with the cowl and front canopy on together...
The instructions say to make sure you have the same gap between the front and rear spinner bulkheads to match the prop. I was positive that didn't need to do this because the Catto prop is made specifically for RV's, but I measured anyway just to check that step off. Here the front bulkhead is perfectly perpendicular to the spinner, and I did the same thing for the rear bulkhead. The measurements were spot on as expected.
Next I spent a LOT of time getting the cutouts (green arrow) made for each prop blade on the front bulkhead. I still have some sanding to do to get the clearance I need, but this pic is really close.
That's where I left things for the day...time to go home and get ready for the Image Air Christmas party! 5.25 hours |
