2/1/2007 More firewall work tonight. I started with the FW recess. The other night, I had some problems with the fit of this piece, and I sought some advise of some other builders, and searched the forums for some answers. Turns out, it's a fairly common problem, but no big deal. I think my main problem was that I cleco'd it in place the first time without the stiffeners in place. Tonight, I put it in with the stiffeners in place, drilled it and it worked out much better.
Then I took everything apart again and deburred all the FW parts. Next it was time to dimple the firewall with the DRDT. I still can't get over how much this tool has made dimpling such an easy thing to do.
The recess was dimpled with my new vise grip 3/32 dimplers. In order for the stiffeners to sit flush with the FW, they have to be countersunk.
Next time, it's prime time! 2.75 hours |
