Just a short day in the shop today.  We had our 5 year old niece come stay with us for the weekend, so I couldn't spend a whole lot of time out there.  Today, I started on the WD-409 tail spring mount.  This is mounted between the 711 and 712 bulkheads.  As has been the theme in the fuselage instructions, things are a bit vague here as to where to actually start drilling the 409 mount.  There are several dimensions given on the plans for locating the 712 to 409, but the instructions say to drill 409 using 711 as a guide.  Maybe I just didn't see the obvious, but I couldn't figure an easy way to position and clamp 409 to 711.  When I did get it positioned, I marked the holes to be drilled in 409 thru the holes in 711, and then took it off to drill it.  I started with a very small 5/64" bit to make a pilot hole and worked my way step by step to a #30 hole.  It get's drilled out for the bolt that goes in there, but I didn't get to that today.  Here it is cleco'd to 711.

Then I fit it to the skin, and found that the cutout for the tail spring needed to be widened a bit to accommodate 409, and the 712 bulkhead.

The part marked for trimming was trimmed with the Dremel, and then I cleco'd everything together.

The 409 mount fits much better now.

I still may trim it just a bit more, but I'll wait until 409 is drilled to both bulkheads.
