Looking for SOMETHING to do on the RV while I am waiting for my finish kit to arrive, I decided to give a shot at polishing the firewall.  I haven't bought the Caswell stainless steel polish stuff yet, but I do have some Nevr Dull polish wadding that I wanted to try.  I can see a noticeable difference, but it's not quite mirror-like.  I'm not sure if I'm gonna go any farther than this with it, but I am pleased with how it looks now.

This is Nevr Dull...

It's a wad of cotton-like stuff that is soaked in an oil that polishes very nicely.

So, here are the before and after shots of the firewall-

Before-

After-

The stuff does work, though it still has some cloudiness in it.

This shot below shows very well how much of a change there was...

Not bad, huh?  The rivet heads are now silver, and with a bit more elbow grease (I hate that stuff!), they will shine.

Other news since my last entry...I bought a fixed pitch spinner from a guy on Van's Air Force with all hardware, back plate, and crush plate for $100 shipped.  Saved a small amount there.  I deleted the spinner from the finish kit order because I hadn't yet decided which prop I will use.  Well, money always being an issue, I will start with an FP prop, and see how things are down the road.

I also sold my Icom IC-A210 that I bought in the RV group buy.  The main reason being that is comes with a 2 year warranty (something I did not think about when I bought it), and I won't be flying in two years.  I want the radio and EFIS to be under warranty when I begin using them...just in case.  It went to an RV-9 builder in Georgia who will be flying this summer.  I plan to use a Garmin SL40 now when the time comes.

Partain Trucking (Tony Partain is an RV builder...RV-7 sold, and now working on an RV-3B) will be shipping my finish kit next week.  I'm not in any real hurry for it, but it will be nice to get back to working on this thing.  Surprisingly, he had the best price, coming in lower than ALL the major companies.  Some were marginally higher, others where hundreds of dollars higher, but all were higher.  PLUS, my kit will never leave the trailer until it gets here to my house.  The other shipping companies transfer it from trailer to trailer, across loading docks, numerous forklifts, and lots of potential for damaging the contents.  Two thumbs up for Partain!
