1/22/2007 Well, I'll officially call this back to building day. With the fuselage getting closer to my house, I went ahead and started cleaning up the manual flap weldment to prep it for the powdercoating. I used the bead blaster at work to clean it. This took some finagling to get it done because it's an odd shape, and it didn't want to fit in there quite right. Here's the blaster-
Here's the weldment fresh out of the blaster-
I brought it home, and finished cleaning it with scotchbrite pads and alcohol. Looks nice, and it's ready for powdercoating. I also cleaned up the slot for the anchor. It was just a little rough cut, so I filed it nice and smooth.
Then I took apart the flap anchor. I don't think I really needed to do this, but according to the RV-6 plans, it has a much smaller base that is supposed to be built. So, I drilled out the three rivets holding the arc to the base, and I'll fab up a new, smaller base.
I'll also be cutting another notch or two in the arc. What you see is 0, 20, and 40 degrees of flap. I'd like to put in 10 and 30 degrees. They say 40 degrees can be difficult to pull down, and 20 degrees is just a little much for downwind. So, a 10 degree notch will be "approach" and "take off" flaps, and 30 degrees will add the option of two settings for final flaps. 1.25 hours |
