7/27/2006 Well, I'm back from Oshkosh, and it was a GREAT show! I met a bunch of RV builders and talked to all the engine builders that I am now considering. More on that later... I did dive right back in to working on the wings this evening, but as soon as I pulled up today, the UPS man was knocking on the door with my package from Van's. I ordered the landing light lenses before I left for the show, and they arrived today. Good timing!
Tonight I worked on fabin' up the retainer strips for the lens covers. These are pretty easy to make, and they won't really be seen, so I cut 'em out of some .025 scrap that I had laying around.
I only need two shaped like those from Duckworks since the top portion is more rounded. I clamped those to the LE's on the outside to drill the holes in the skin. The top of the light was traced on to a piece of paper, then transferred to the scrap AL for rough cutting with the snips.
Then I used the rib template for marking the holes for the platenuts. The template was taped to a piece of cardboard for stiffness, then lined up and marked using the holes you see in the left pic.
Then the holes were drilled. I only got one rib drilled tonight when Brit came home from the kennel club.
