7/12/2007 I've been taking a LOT of pictures each night the last few nights! I didn't include all of them tonight, but I still have a bunch. I started by installing (temporarily) the forward seat skins with a few screws per side.
Then just for the fun of it, I set the center tunnel cover in place since the paint is dry.
Sweet! Okay, now the next project to start on is the seatbacks. Call me crazy, but I have an idea to make the seatbacks lighter, and BREATHABLE. The breathable part will work only if I can find the right material to make seatback cushions with (I have a good line on something...). Anyway, my crazy idea may not work, so this may all be a waste of time, but I gotta try it. I'm gonna try and make a screen door protector...into seatbacks.
These are SUPER LIGHT, but I think I can use the plans for the regular seatbacks plus a cross member or two, and make them pretty rigid. Here's one of them cut to shape.
I did have to cut the side covers to size as well. I put "keeper" rivets in the corners to hold the shape while I work with them. These will get drilled out, or drilled thru when the angle gets riveted in place.
Yes, I will smooth out the corners... I made both of them, and set them aside to work on the angle. These are totally per plans.
The bottom ends get a notch cut out of them for the hinge that will attach there.
Next I measured and drilled the angle.
Then I drilled the angle to the sides of the seatbacks, and cleco'd them in place.
Things are still a bit rough here, but It's looking pretty good! They really stiffened up a bit with the angle in place. I'll probably run a piece of angle (or two) across the middle of the seatback to keep the mesh from sagging. So...go ahead, call me crazy! 4.0 hours |
