7/14/2007 Well, it seems like the lightweight, breathable seatbacks just might work! I started this morning by deburring the side angles and the seatback sides, then riveted the side angles in place.
Then I started working on the bottom hinge and angle after I cut and trimmed all the .063 angle pieces.
That all was sandwiched together (there is a shim in there that had to be put in) and riveted. Then I did the top angle and middle support. This middle support is the only thing that is different than the seatbacks that come with the kit. I may need to add one more halfway between this one and the bottom, but it seems pretty good as it is.
Next was the top hinge that connects the seatback support. This took a bit of thought to get right (maybe just for me...). I used the hinge called out in the plans, and added a strip across the front for the rivets to attach to. The one closest to the camera is the back side, and farther is the front.
I didn't get to the seatback support yet, but I had to set them in place to see how they look! Came out pretty good!
I am curious to see if I saved any weight (haven't weighed these yet), so I'm gonna have to get a builder friend to weigh theirs. It'd be cool if I managed to do so. It's more about breath-ability than anything... Long day... 6.25 hours |
