7/7/2007 I started off this morning with the baggage tunnel cover. This was not fitting correctly, according to the plans. It's too long, so I set that aside for the time being, and moved on to the seat belt anchors. I've been waiting to install these because it looked like they would be in the way, and jab me in the side if I were laying down on the floor to work on something. Well...they are NOT in the way, especially with a board over the top of them. DON'T wait to put these in...they are major PITA to do now. None the less, I got 'em in.
After that fun was over, I went back to the tunnel cover. I basically forced it in to position just to see how it turned out, and it's bad...
The arrow is pointing to the culprit. I think I'm going to put the tab BEHIND the bulkhead cover, and that adjustment should do the trick to line everything up. See how wavy it is with the screws in place? UUUUUGLY! Anyway, next I found the forward baggage side skins to work on. These need a hunk of AL trimmed from the top to clear the side skin, so I did that with the bandsaw, and installed the platenuts on the bottom flange. This skin is attached with screws to allow access to the flap mechanism. The outlined area is where the trim was made.
I painted those, and set them aside to dry. While drying, I took the time to remove the aft top skins. The plans say to do it after the baggage area is complete, but I can't very well do that while paint is drying. I've never seen any pics of the bulkhead covers from the back, so here are a couple just of the fun of it!
The last thing I did today before we left town, was to make the hinges that will be riveted to the seat pans for seat adjustment. I made the 15 1/2" pieces first...
...cut out the middle two eyelets...
...and then drilled the holes after measuring and laying them out.
Tomorrow is supposed to be H-O-T...95 degrees with heat indices over 105...we'll see how much I can do after the yard work is done... 5.0 hours |
