7/26/2008 This will probably be the last entry until I get back from Oshkosh. We're not leaving for another two days, but I have PLENTY of house (honey-do) work to do before we embark on our yearly aviation adventure. Today, I started the sanding process. I hate fiberglass. The micro balloons do sand better than the flox and fabric, but it still sucks. I did put this first layer on with the tip of the scale going toward more epoxy for one more layer of strength, so it's quite hard. This picture is taken after an hour and fifteen minutes off sanding. The bottom edge of the red electricians tap is now visible, and can be peeled back. There are two layers of this tape on there.
Here's a pretty descent shot of the front contour...
The top edge came out great after removing the top layer of tape.
For the next layer, I put down a strip of yellow electricians tape on the red, followed by green electricians tape all the way around. The idea here is that once I spread the next layer of micro on, that I would peel the green layer off immediately, and leave the yellow and red layers down for a sanding index. Here's the second layer on, with the layer of green tape already removed. This leaves a nice, finished edge on top that will just get sanded to even with the yellow layer. If that next round of sanding looks good enough for finishing, I'll remove the yellow layer, and sand the top edge to the red layer, and that will be the finished edge.
My cowl is coming tonight, and I'm sure I'll have some pictures to post tomorrow. 2.0 hours |
