7/11/2009 'Nuther cool day at the airport today...a good friend, and Oshkosh buddy, Joe Ferraro stopped by today! He's an 8A builder from the Dallas area, and was on a weekend layover in St. Louis, so he rented a car and drove up for a visit. Was great seein' ya Joe! I had a couple more welcomed interruptions today (seriously...these are MORE than welcome interruptions!), and I did get to some building this evening. I finished installing the lower tabs on the firewall for the cowl first...riveted the tabs in place...
...then riveted the nut plates to the tabs.
After that I was looking over stuff FWF, and remembered that I wanted (needed) to change all the Nyloc nuts in the engine bay to all metal lock nuts. I don't know if it's "officially" a no-no to use Nylocs, but most advice I've gotten has been to NOT use them because of the high temps in the engine bay. So, I switched all of them (about 10) to all metal lock nuts. Then I turned my attention back to the cowl to round out the induction inlet hole with the Dremel. This hole was almost covered over with 'glass from SJ, and it was very sharp.
I'm kinda stalled out a bit right now because I don't have the sealant I need to rivet the hinges to the top cowl. I want to have them riveted in and cured before I work on fitting the rings because I don't trust the cleco's to hold the hinges in place while doing that. I'll find something else to work on in the meantime, but I hate moving on to something else when that is next on my list. 3.5 hours |
