7/20/2009 Back from a great work weekend at Oshkosh! I didn't have any direction or plans for getting back in the hangar tonight, so I just sorta went ala carte tonight. I started with the front joint on the cowl again...the slurry had settled a bit, and didn't leave a whole lot for the upper cowl to use as an attach point, so I had to fill in the gaps, and lay in some 'glass to get the shape right. We'll see what it looks like tomorrow...
A peek from the inside...
Since the cowl was on the airplane for the night, I had to find something to do elsewhere. Looking around the hangar, I spotted the empennage tips. Why not? So I riveted those in...first I did the vertical tip, and it's obvious here that I have some building up to do to make it match the rudder tip.
Then I did the horizontal tips...there was some trimming right off the bat to do here so the elevator could move thru. I still have to fill the tips with some foam and epoxy, but they are riveted on now.
Hmm...now what...where are those aileron stops at? Once I found those, I put 'em on. I don't know if the aileron throw is correct yet, but I've been wanting to put these in just so I wouldn't lose them.
I wish I could've stayed at the hangar longer tonight...my friend two hangar's down was out getting a tail wheel lesson in his 'new to him' Cessna 120, some other friends brought their Cessna 170 down to wash it, and yet another friend (owns a polished Swift) came down to visit for a bit...just as Steve was getting back from his lesson...and I had to leave. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes... 2.0 hours |
