7/22/2009 I removed the cowl from last session's lay-up, and I'm pretty pleased with the results. It's not perfect, but it will work. The last step in this lay-up, is to lay in a few layers of fiberglass to the back side where the metal strip with go. I put three pieces of 8oz 'glass on with a cotton flox mix.
Obviously the edges are very rough at this point, but I'll cut those down when this step cures tomorrow. With that drying, I was back to that feeling of sort of shot-gunning for something to do. So I started hooking up control surfaces. I started with the elevators...I thought this was going to be supremely frustrating, but it turned out to be fairly easy. I hooked up the elevator end first.
Then I hooked up the bellcrank inside...and wiggled the control stick.
Next I hooked up the trim tab...and had to move the vernier in and out.
And lastly tonight, I hooked up the ailerons...and wiggled the control stick some more! Everything should all still be lined up from the first fitting I did two summers ago. I haven't tightened anything out in the wing at the aileron yet just in case there is some re-rigging to do, but the control column hookups are torque'd.
That's as far as I could get tonight since I had a few things to take care of at home...next will be the flaps, and then the rudder. 2.5 hours |
