First item on the agenda today was to split the cowl halves to check the front tabs...

I had no issues with the halves sticking together, and the layups are fine.

I smoothed them down just enough to keep fingers from getting sliced from the glass, and I'm calling them done.

On to the oil door!  I've sorta been dreading this, and actually put it off a bit, but it's time to get it done.  First I marked the location by setting the top half on the engine to check where the dip stick lines up, then drew out the shape.

I was going to use a coping saw blade and a keyhole saw, but after failing to smoothly make an entry slot for either saw, I decided to make the straight cuts with the Dremel and cutoff wheel.  The rounded corners were also cut with the Dremel, but I used a round diamond-tipped cutter to do this...basically holding the Dremel like a pencil, and drawing the cutout corner with the cutter.  It helps to have a steady hand here...

I used duct tape on the inside to keep the door from shifting while making the last two corner cuts.

After sanding the edges on both the door and the cowl, it ended up looking really good!

I set that aside for now, and started working on the inlet rings.  The first step is to use a ring to mark the line for it to slide thru the hole.

After a couple of minutes with the Dremel and sanding drum, the rings slid right in.

Notice how shiny the rings are???  Those are not James rings...I got 'em from a guy in New York off of VAF...they're VERY NICE!!  I also discovered today that the little ring that is used for the intake is too big.  SJ sells two sizes for that hole, and I need to send the medium one back to get the small one.
