7/3/2009 Didn't get a whole lot of time at the hangar today...had the day off of work, but it was filled with housework and waiting for the Sears repairman to fix our microwave. Anyway, my dad and I went out to the airport late this afternoon to work on fitting the bottom cowl some more. I thought I was done with the trimming, but once we fit the bottom to the top, I found I still had a slight bit to remove at the aft end top to bottom seam. I didn't take any pics of the trimming process, but here are the results...
Doesn't look too bad...until you get closer...
I thought I had a BIG problem here, but I think what is happening, is the bottom cowl is pushing slightly upward on the rear of the top cowl, forcing it to move a bit forward. And I actually think the top cowl needs to be sanded more than the bottom, so I'm gonna see about doing that tomorrow or Sunday. I'm more concerned with the spinner to cowl fit than that gap though...I can add some filler to close it up, but the spinner to cowl relationship is pretty much fixed, and will stick out pretty bad if not done correctly. The other side is looking really good...
What looks like a large gap between the top and firewall is marker lines. There is a gap, but not as bad as the other side. There's still some sanding to do on the bottom cowl to firewall seam, so I hope between that and the top cowl sanding, I'll get the gaps to close some. What a tedious process this is... 1.75 hours |
