6/13/2007 With air compressor number 5 up and running, I got to riveting some stuff tonight. I started with the F-757T's to the longerons and 705 bulkhead. Then did the F-721B side rails. All of this was done with the pneumatic squeezer with different yokes. I've read that the side rail rivets could not be squeezed...didn't have any problem with this at all with the longeron yoke and a long flush set in the yoke side, and a VERY short flush set in the plunger.
You can see the one silver cleco that is left is a hole that is gonna be challenging to set a rivet in. The 704 side brace is COMPLETELY in the way. I'll need to research that one. The copper cleco in the pic was one that had to be bucked with the gun. Did it solo with no issues. Next, I worked on the F-695 gussets. I squeezed all of these with a borrowed four inch no-hole c yoke. Nothing special here, other than the steel firewall bracket underneath was scratched a bit with the yoke. I'll need to prime and paint that to protect it from rust.
Here is air compressor number 5. I just got so tired of the noise that the 33 gallon Craftsman oiless made, that I sold it (working PERFECTLY) and bought this one.
This thing is SO QUIET!! Amazing the difference $60 (new) will get you. If you haven't bought one yet...this is the one!! 2.0 hours |
