6/7/2008 Today was the day! THE BIG CUT was made on the canopy this afternoon! Before I did that, I had to make one more trim at the front of the canopy to get it to lay a little more flush with the 702 skin.
With that looking good, I taped down the canopy to the fuselage to bring the sides in as tight as I could, and then cut the vinyl to expose the plexi to mask off the cut line using the roll bar centerline as a guide.
I used what has become the norm for masking off the cut line by laying down several layers of inch and a half masking tape on either side of the line.
Then I moved it outside, put on my headgear (eye protection, ear protection, hat, and respirator), and went to town. I was so focused on what I was doing, that I didn't even think about getting nervous. I just went for it, and it was not an issue in the least.
Yep, it was beer time. Some say don't fruit the beer, but Leini's Berry Weiss is some of the best I've ever come across! That was one GOOD beer! After I sanded the edges smooth, I moved the forward section back on the fuselage, and the rear section went back upstairs.
Great afternoon! There's plenty more trimming to do, but it's time to get cleaned up for our Saturday evening BBQ! 2.75 hours |
