6/17/2009 I love being at the airport...tonight was such a nice night...perfect temp at 80 degrees, no wind, airplane's flying, people stopping by, my mom brought me dinner...was just about perfect. Just needed Brit and the dogs to be there... I started with the sheer bar bolts at the wing root attach area. These bolts are what hold the sheer bars in place, rather than the rivets that are in there already. There are two per side.
Then I hung the prop. Most advise to wait, but I want as much real weight on the engine mount that will be there at the end in order to fit the cowl, so I put it on. Nothing is torqued, and I haven't fit the spinner yet, and haven't done the forward spinner bulkhead, but this will be really close to the real weight to account for engine sag. Freakin' SWEET!!!
Then I started fitting the top cowl. I hot glued a couple of AL strips to the top, and a 1/4" bar to the front to set the spacing. I also put an extra 1/16" piece in to account for the thickness of the spinner.
Here's an overall shot...I need to do some reading on how people are making sure the top half is perfectly straight.
Spent three hours out there, and got just over an hour in work-wise...that's the airport experience! 1.25 hours |
