This morning my goal was to get the top cowl initial trim done...I started by using a different method to get the top cowl positioned to the spinner.  The hot glue just wouldn't support the cowl, so I used a 2x4 and some AL shims to get it to sit right.

Before fitting it, I found the center of the rear of the cowl, and marked it.

Then I marked two lines...one inside the cowl showing pretty much exactly where the firewall ends, and an initial cut line...though I plan to make the first cut about an eighth beyond that aft line.

With that done, the instructions say to test fit the bottom cowl to make sure the sides line up decent enough before any cutting is done.  So for the next hour or so, I made several iterative cuts to get the gear leg cutouts done (rough cuts), then fit it and clamped it to the top cowl and fuselage.

The bottom cowl fits okay...there's gonna be some work needed below the spinner, but overall not bad.

The big two things I was worried about was alternator and starter interference...there is NONE with this cowl!

The last thing I was able to do before I had to head home to do yard work was to remove the cowl halves, and make the initial cut on the top cowl.

You can see both lines, and the cut was made about an eighth behind the aft one.  Let the fitting fun begin!

My 1304 CT bolts for the spars came today, so I'll be fitting those first tomorrow...
