3/23/2010 My one night to work this week...I took the opportunity to install the prop for good by torqueing down the bolts. To do this, I used the "Malibu" extension that our shop guys made to install Piper Malibu props. It is a calibrated tool with several known values written along the tool. I wanted to set the torque at 50ft-lbs to account for bolt drag (bolts are rated at 40-57ft-lbs), and according to the "table" on the tool, the wrench gets set to 31ft-lbs. I started with 15, then 25, then 31...
Worked like a charm...on to safetying the bolts! I did all twelve bolts, but before I install the spinner, I want the guys at work to look at my safety wire technique to make sure I did it properly...
Next I decided to check the control travels...I have a couple that are a bit out of spec, so I'll need to check on the forums tomorrow to see if close is close enough, or if Van's numbers are hard and fast...
Lastly tonight, I dropped a dab of clear RTV on the LSI coax wires where to split to go in to the baffles. I know for sure of one failure at this split, and read about some issues elsewhere...we'll see how this works.
That's it again for a few days... 1.5 hours |
