5/27/2006 Today was a LONG day in the shop, but it was mostly filled with deburring. I removed the fuel tank stiffeners and proceeded to deburr all the holes in the tank skins and the ribs. I also removed the blue from the skins. I did find a nifty way to deburr all these holes and avoid the constant and continuous motion of the swivel deburr tool...it spins at no more than 180 rpm, so it's very controllable. The bit is perfect for most holes using a light touch.
After about four and a half hours of deburring, I started on the left fuel tank trap door. This is going to be the flop tube tank, so it needs a "trap door" to keep fuel in the first bay when attitudes become unusual. The square piece is not black-weird camera trick!
6.0 hours The next step is to dimple the skins and ribs, so after I finished that six hour marathon session, I decided it was finally time to set up the DRDT-2 in the table. I did this in a way that I can still fully utilize the table when the DRDT is not in place. The cutout piece simply slides back in to place.
