5/7/2006 Pretty big day today, but not a whole lot to show for it! I started by drilling all the ribs to the leading edge, and then re-hung the plumb bobs. Then I used the Unibit (need to get a new one, this one sucks!) to drill the whole to final size for the tie down eye bolt. I need to tap those a little farther to get it in the rest of the way.
Took a break for lunch, then I started on the fuel tanks. I decided, like the rest of the RV world, to use Dan Checkoway's method of installing the Z brackets. He does make it much easier than Vans instructions. I de-blued the inside of the R skin and began clecoing the ribs in place.
This was actually much easier than I thought it was going to be. I used a cheap little awl from Sears to line the holes up, and voila! Here's the right tank with the baffle cleco'd in place.
Then I drilled the 3/16" hole in the center of each Z bracket. Here they are lined up ready for the drill.
After they are all center drilled, they were bolted to the spar to drill the outer holes to #12.
The left skin is waiting in the second cradle that I built to have the ribs cleco'd in tomorrow. 4.25 hours |
