5/27/2007 Two work sessions again today. This morning I got out there to rivet my arm rest stiffeners in place to begin with. These turned out awesome! It's hard to see the stiffener angle in the pic below, but the one on the right is up-side down showing the stiffener. This did make them about twice as heavy, but I won't have to worry about bent arm rests.
After that was done, I started riveting the forward fuselage at the base of the 704 bulkhead. I only did the rivets I could set with the squeezer since my dad was coming over in the afternoon to buck. These are the one's I got done this morning on both sides.
After lunch, my dad showed up, and we got started on the side skin riveting. I'm pleased to say that we ALMOST finished it after a five hour session. All we have left are the side seat rib rivets, and the bottom skin. All the rivets turned out great, but I do have one small dent I'll need to fill before paint. No big deal...just used the wrong bar for the situation. Lookin' good!!
If dad has some time tomorrow, we'll get this finished up and FLIPPED OVER!! After he left, the only other thing I did was to install the nuts and bolts at the lower longeron to firewall intersection. These would be awfully difficult to install after the bottom skin in riveted on, but not impossible. The bolts seemed long to me, but they are 3-5's as called for in the plans.
Hopefully tomorrow we'll be able to flip the canoe! 7.0 hours |
