5/18/2009-Happy 6th Birthday to Wiley!!  Yeager was 3 back on 5/10 too!

My Sam James cowl arrived today!  Actually, me and my friend Steve drove over to Peoria (35mi) to the ABF dock to pick it up...$132 shipped to the dock, or $385 shipped to the house...pretty easy choice.

I had to do one quick fit of the top cowl since this is a special length cowl...the arrows show the extra 4" or so that Will made for me.  My agreement with Will for him to do this at no extra charge, was that he would do it, and I agreed to "body work by Chad" since there is a tape line at the seam, and the cuts are a bit rough around the edges.  This is my summer project...

Then I got back to polishing.  I had several good ideas posted to me on VAF yesterday and today, and I also realized that I'm not using enough polish.  I was putting about five dots on the PAD on the buffer.  That ain't enough, even tho I thought I was doing the right thing by using "very little" polish.  Turns out I needed a dot every two to three inches on the METAL area be polished!  Surprise!  It works!  I still have a lot of work to do, but I am VERY pleased with tonight's results!!  First I did two passes with F9, and I took a pic of how the polish should look at the very start...I had NOTHING like this the first two times I tried this.

Here you can see the results of two passes with F9-

Pretty good, but the scratches are still there...

They are getting faint, but still there.  So, I decided to give G6 a try.  According to Nuvite's site, F9 is supposed to be the stuff to remove abrasive pad lines, but G6 turns out to work better!  Check this out after ONE G6 pass!

Lots of swirls, and the scratches are disappearing!  I think one or two more passes with G6 will do the trick!

Here's a nice overall shot of the work I did tonight...the flap is looking really good, and the main skins are looking REALLY ugly now!  All those swirls will go away later when the finish buffer is used.

So it looks like I'll be ordering a pound of G6 tomorrow, and adding a step to the process...unless I can go from G6 to C, skipping F7.  We'll see...
