11/21/2006 Tonight I worked on fitting the wingtips to the wings, and after some filing, sanding, and cutting, I drilled them to the piano hinge. When the tips were ready to be fit in place to be drilled, I put four long pieces of duck tape on each side of the wing to hold the tip in place while drilling.
You can see the LED trouble light hanging there. This was left inside the tip for drilling the holes (see below). Here's how they were held with the tape.
Here's the picture that shows why I sanded the gelcoat off. With the light shining inside the tip, it was very easy to drill the holes to match the hinge.
The LED trouble light is REALLY bright, and there's no heat buildup. Pretty slick! And, it was on sale at Menards for $20!!! All the holes for each tip were drilled and cleco'd as I went along.
