11/10/2007 Man, three BEAUTIFUL Saturday's in a row!! This is great! I started this morning by fixing the rub problem with the elevator push rod. After researching this last night, I found that it's a common problem, and the fix is to use a sanding drum in the Dremel to remove 3/32-1/8" from the bottom of the pass thru at 705. I managed to do this without removing the push rod completely, but I did remove it from the stick end. I had to adjust the length anyway.
I sprayed some primer over the exposed area, and I'll leave it at that. The push rod will still hit the bottom of the pass thru, but it has to move a bit farther to do that, and in regular use, it will not rub. I did adjust the length of the push rod so the control sticks are close to straight up when the bellcrank is straight up. This should be close to neutral, but again, I won't know this until the tail is put on for good when I can check the up/down travel of the elevator. After lunch, I went back to working on the sub panel. First, I removed the "hat section" and deburred it, then riveted it and the forward channel and center sub panel.
I also riveted the little 743B angle to the forward center channel.
Then I removed the entire sub panel to deburr the holes, and dimple where appropriate. I wasn't going to prime or paint the sub panel, but after looking at it for the past couple of weeks in bare aluminum, I decided that aesthetically, it would look better if it were primed. So, that's what I did at the end of the day today.
I'm getting very low on parts to work on at this point, but I do have a little bit of the list that I can keep working on after I finish installing the sub panel. I plan to order the finish kit next week. 3.75 hours |
