11/20/2007 Tonight I started working on the fuel selector installation. First, I put some sealant compound on the threads of the fittings that go in to the selector and installed those. I also bolted the selector to the plate.
Then I cleco'd the plate to the spar, and started hooking up the fuel lines. In the picture below, you can see where I eff'd up the bends where the red arrows are. The outside of the bend is flat, and the inside is kinked.
Since that won't work (and it looks like crap), I decided to cut the tubing between the ribs, and I'll put unions to join them to the bends that will connect to the selector. I also got a rough idea of how to run the line forward to the firewall.
That's not in it's final location yet (since it's rubbing the floor). I still have to figure out how the selector cover is going to fit in to this. Over the last couple of days, I've been thinking about where to relocate my strobe power supply because my wires are too short to reach where it was behind the baggage bulkhead. I posted this question to Rivetbangers and VAF, and most people suggested that I just buy longer cables and leave it alone. My idea to put it on the front tunnel cover wasn't all that well received, even though several people had emailed me that they had done it, but it takes up room. So, here's what I decided to do. I'm not buying new cables, but I am going to relocate the power supply just behind the passenger seat.
I will put a cover over it, and in this location, the wires should reach without a problem. There is no interference with anything here, and it won't be seen since the seatback will cover it up. I had some scrap Z channel around, so that was used to mount it. I'll rivet this in later on after I'm done climbing in and out of the cabin. 3.0 hours |
