11/16/2008 This morning I went back to work on the FAB cone and carb heat door since the paint was dry. I also got the carb air box in the mail yesterday, so I can finish this project up. First I marked the location of the actuator arm, and riveted that to the door. Carb heat on position-
Normal position, carb heat off-
Then I worked on the carb heat tube inlet. Pretty simple stuff here of installing plate nuts for the screws. The red mark is where I need to make the cutout for the actuator arm.
A little while later, after LOTS of filing to get the shape correct, I had it installed...temporarily...carb heat off position-
Wow, that picture looks HUGE because of the cone...weird... And the carb heat on position...
Next I wanted to check the fit of the K&N filter. I fit this stuff together before, and it worked great...but for some reason, I still ended up with a slight rub on the tip of the filter.
Even though they make note of this in the plans to check it, I still ended up with this. I made a notch in the door to clear the tip.
I am going to try to find some material that is weather resistant, but flexible enough, to seal the bottom of the intake, and flex past the tip of the filter. If not, I've read that many people have this issue, and most leave it alone. We'll see... It was chilly in the garage today, and I see myself really slowing down on the airplane soon. I plan to do my wiring design over the winter, and that will allow me to stay in the warm house. Updates will probably not be all that detailed, but who knows. 3.0 hours |
