10/22/2006 Phew! I planned a long day in the shop, and got it! After some early morning house chores, I went out to the garage to get to work on fabbing up a couple more of the FL-708 spacers for the other flap. Then I made a set of shims for each rear spar. They say that the ribs should touch the rear spar, and that if they don't, they need shims. I think I needed two shims on one and three on the other (out of four on each side). Since I was in the groove of fabricating parts, I went ahead and made the FL-706A angles for each spar.
Then I drilled the ribs to the rear spar with the shims in place where they were needed. Then the hinge was drilled to each spar. I used little "baby" c-clamps that I moved along as I drilled to keep everything lined up.
All of this was for the left flap, and all was repeated for the right side. After the right side was caught up, I removed the bottom skin, and recleco'd the hinge to the spar in order to countersink the spar.
After that was done, I needed a break. I couldn't believe I had been at it for almost four hours already! The dogs were home with me today, and I needed to give them some attention. Later in the evening, I came back out to work some more, and started by clecoing the left top skin 701L to the structure, and did the same for the right side. I drilled the skins to the structure, and then removed the top and bottom skins.
Next I bent the 706B attach bracket to the required 6.3 degrees.
It was somewhere around this point that my mind started to shut down on me for the day, and I started to confuse myself with what I needed to do next. I didn't mess anything up, but I knew it was about time to call it a day. I did drill the left one to the inboard rib (along with the platenut), and deburred and primed those parts. I also drilled 706AL to the spar, and called it quits after that.
It was getting difficult to concentrate, and the Cardinal game had my attention as well, so hopefully tomorrow I can sort out which direction I need to take next. 6.75 hours |
