10/29/2006 The flaps are done! My dad came over again late this afternoon to help me finish up the right flap. Nothing too terribly exciting here, other than the fact that it looks like I have my first major smiley that I'll need to fill before paint. Oh well...it happened while I was shooting the top skin row of rivets to the spar. The gun slipped, and here's what I ended up with-
It happens, and I'm not building a show plane here. I also don't get what all the fuss is about in building twist in to these things. I didn't do anything special here. Just use the V cradle, and it works out. I ended up with two twist free flaps, and one smiley (ok, this one is a dent) that needs attention later...
Oh, here's a really cool tip! The 3 inch C-yoke for the squeezer works as GREAT bucking bar to get those rear spar rivets! It's nice and thin, and is plenty dense to set the -3 rivets. It's also VERY easy to square it to the work to set nice shop heads!
