10/15/2007 Tonight I got a start on the roll bar installation. First, I clamped the roll bar to the fuselage. To get close to the proper height, I had to trim the bottom of each side to fit the contour of the outside angle. This pic shows how I made the trim.
I still need to radius the outside edge, but this works for now. Here's an overall shot of the roll bar in place.
Then I cleco'd the F-732A brace and the F-732F spacer in place. This gives the proper angle for the roll bar to lean back.
The rear of the brace then gets drilled to the skin and 706 bulkhead. The arrow shows the F-732F spacer.
Then the front of the brace is drilled to the F-732D angle attached to the back of the roll bar, and the little 732E side angles get drilled too.
I checked measurements all around, and everything is just about spot on. I am about a sixteenth high, but that will be corrected with the radius of the bottom of the bar. A little tweaking here and there, and this thing will be set! 1.75 hours |
