10/3/2009 Finally had a good day in the hangar! It was cold, but my new lights helped to keep the work area fairly warm. It was a nasty day outside today...foggy, rainy, low clouds, windy...yuck. While it was doing that outside, I was busy inside working on running the fuel level sender wires to the RDAC. No pics of that though. Then I cut some SCAT tubing to hook up the cabin heat system.
Cool (relative) air comes in off the plenum chamber, goes thru a heat muff to warm the air using the exhaust pipe, then routed to the cabin. Nice to have that checked off the list! Then I decided to hook up the fuel lines between the wings and fuselage again. The right side is going to be fine, but I'm not happy with the left. Right...
The left side has the flop tube in it, and that fuel line is routed forward, rather than straight out the fuselage like the right side. Since I switched to the braided SS fuel lines inside the cabin, I don't have the support for the AL fuel line running forward to the supply fitting. I'm either going to have to find a way to make sure the line isn't vibrating enough to loosen the B-nut, or switch back to the AL rigid line on the left side. Hmmm...
Back to the FWF stuff, I decided to cut out the ugly "service loops" of copper tubing on the #1 cylinder, and re-solder the fitting. That sucked.
Then I worked on securing the LSI coil wires to the engine mount. I'm just gonna try this to see if it works or not. It's not as elegant a solution as I'd like, but it may work. I'm worried about vibration here causing a wire to break (happened to Rob).
Next up was putting some rubber tubing over the starter wire where it crosses the engine mount. With the SCAT tubing now in place, it will force the wire to rub on the mount.
The last thing I did today (no pics) was to re-route the OAT wiring. I decided to do this a while back, but hadn't done anything about it. Rather than run it all the way out to the wing tip, or an inspection panel, I've seen several that have theirs mounted in the NACA fresh air duct on the pilot's side. So that's where I'm going with mine. I cut out over six feet of wire, and now it will be much more serviceable. Good day! 5.75 hours |
