9/3/2006 Brit was headed for a training day with Yeager today, so I spent my day in the shop...where else? I started by prepping the flap and aileron braces W-721 W-724 for priming, then primed those.
Then I dimpled the aileron braces where they get riveted to the top skins, cleco'd the parts to the wings, then riveted them on. For the first time since I started this project, I did buck a few rivets without a partner! They were easy one's though, and I did use the Snap Socs on the rivet set. If you're gonna go it alone, use 'em!!
Then I installed the pitot tube and some hardware. I am using the Safe Air pitot kit, but not their pitot tube. In order to do this, there are some minor fitting swaps that need to be made, and I still need to figure this one out. I also had to make a special washer to fit the through fitting for the pitot tube. I don't know if it's because of where I drilled the hole, or if this is just the way it works out, but two rivet shop heads are in the way of getting the nut down on the spar flange. You can see the washer as it was, and how I modified to fit between the rivets.
While I'm thinking the pitot attachment through in my head, I went ahead and cleco'd the right bottom inboard skin to the wing to get it ready for riveting in place. 3.5 hours |
