9/1/2008 MILESTONE ALERT!! LONG ENTRY...Today was engine hanging day!! Some of my builder buddy's that were available on this Labor Day, and my parent's came over to help. All went well with no hitches. I think we're getting better at this as we go...Jack had done this several times, then we hung Rob's last year, then Terry hung his, now mine. It was on in a little less than one hour! I think by the time we hang Larry's and Carl's, we'll have it down to a quick half hour or so! ;o) These first series of pics didn't resize very well for some reason, but you get the idea... Unbolting from the crate-
Lifted to position-
Bring it in SLOWLY!!
Inserting the bottom mounts...
Top mounts in for fitting...
Refitting the bottom mounts with washers...
Rob and Jack working on "their" side...
Installing more washers...
Larry holding the nut while I tighten it down...
More eyeballing...
Me and Larry working on the top mount...
Installed, and being lowered off the hoist!
Not sure what we're doing here...
Time for pizza and beer!!
Voila!
My dad was behind the camera, and those in the picture are Jack Holland (RV-7 Flying), Rob Johnson (RV-7 Flying), Roger Hougham (Super Cub driver), and Larry Enyeart (RV-7 Fuselage kit). Also present was my lovely wife Brittne, my mom, and Rob's wife Christine. I wish I could've had all the local builders over, but only so many hands can get in to help at any one time. Thanks to all you guys that could make it!!
Here are some more pics of it mounted...
After lunch, everybody took off to head back to family stuff, or whatever holiday stuff was happening...flying for Rob and Jack, I repositioned the airplane back to the it's construction spot.
And before I forgot about doing it (not that I really would...), I installed the cotter pins in each of the four engine mount bolts. The two on the bottom are a real PITA, but they're in.
What a great day! 1.75 hours |
