Tonight I felt like the motivation was back!  After many weeks of frustrating sessions because I couldn't pin down a direction, I feel like I'm starting to come out of it.  Last night I cracked open the Tony Bingelis books on FWF stuff and engines.  I don't remember which one I was thumbing thru, but there is a section on the order of things after the engine is hung.  So, using that as a guide, I now have some direction!

The first thing on his list is to ground the engine.  Well, I don't have a grounding strap yet, and I don't know the best place to ground the engine, so I am skipping that for tonight, but it's on the short list of things to do in the next couple of sessions.

Tonight I started with installing the starter.  The Sky-tec starter is a lightweight at only 8.4 pounds!  I am missing the bolt that installs in the front left position, so I ordered that today at work, but I do have the hardware for the other three mounts, which are studs in the engine case.  Those three are torque'd down and in for good.

Yes I do realize that I am going to have to pull the flywheel off to get the alternator belt on, but that's an easy thing to do...two bolts out, move it out slightly, in goes the belt, and viola!  You can also see the hole where the missing bolt goes, so to make sure that I do not forget about this or some reason, I put a red flag in the hole...

Can't miss that!

I don't have all the hardware on hand for the alternator yet either, bit it was ordered at work today too, so I moved on to the next step, which is the ignition install.  I took my mag to work today to have our "mag guy" look it over to make sure it's up for the job.  He won't get to it for a couple of days, so I started on the installation of the Light Speed Plasma II+ install.

First I mounted the bracket for the coils.  This uses the last case bolt on the top rear of the engine.

I torque'd that back down (and checked the torque of the others while I was at it), and then installed the coils...

Next I popped the plug wires on the coils.  I need to do some research/verification on this to make sure I have them hooked up properly.  In this picture, they ARE NOT correct, but shortly afterward, I think I moved them to the proper cylinders.  In the instructions, it says "One coil is to fire cylinders 1 & 2, and the other is to fire 3 & 4...pretty vague at this point...

Until I get that figured out, I moved on to the "brain box".  I took some time to go over some websites before committing to this location, but I am planning to put inspection panels in the forward top skin, so this spot should be very convenient.

After those holes were drilled, I riveted four plate nuts to the rib, but didn't install the box.  Brit pulled in to the garage, we were both hungry, so it's time to stop for the night.

Now...where do I hook up the engine ground...???
