9/8/2008 Tonight I sort of jumped all over the place. I'm having a really hard time figuring out what I need to work on first, next, then what? One thing I did want to get done tonight, was final install the carb by torqueing down the nuts. I almost got it done, but realized that my crows feet wrenches are 3/8's drive, and the torque wrench is 1/4" drive, so I again need to borrow an adapter from work. I got the two nuts that I could get on with the standard socket torque'd to spec, and snugged the other two up with a wrench. The instructions say to re-torque after sitting for a day anyway because the gaskets may compress some. After that, I loosely installed the third firewall eyeball fitting that came today. The fourth one is here too, but I don't know where I'm going to put that one yet.
Then I moved on down to the brakes. I hadn't torque'd anything down there yet, and with the torque wrench at home, I decided to torque those that I could get on to. The others will have to wait for the other set of crows feet. I also saftied the tie bolts.
I found the aluminum tube used for the brake lines, and cut it in to two lengths, but that's as far as I got with that for now...didn't feel like bending and cutting it tonight. So then I decided to finish countersinking the holes in the panel for the screws that hold it in place, and install that. Yes, the blue arrows are where the screws are...
A detail shot...
Also done this evening was the removal of the engine hoist loop. I hope I don't need that loop again until the day I remove the engine for overhaul in twenty or thirty years, so I took it off. Why carry the weight? If I really needed to pull the engine off away from my airport, I'll find one to borrow, or what until I can get mine there. Anyway, that's it until I get back from California, Brad's house, and the Reno Air Races! I don't leave for another day, but tomorrow night is an evening with Brit since I'll be gone for a few days. 2.0 hours |
