9/12/2009 What a great airport day today was! The weather is PERFECT right now, and I started off with the Chapter breakfast, followed by watching Jack and Rob depart in their RV-7s for a fly in... Video's- Pics of the airplane's in front of me and Terry's hangars...
After they left, Terry headed home for the morning, and I got to work on mine. I started by doing some sanding on the plenum from the 'glass work I did the other day. I still will need to do some filling to make the inlets smooth though. Then I test fit it after putting some UHMW tape down on the front baffles where the plenum will rest on them to form a seal. No pics of any of this though. Then I went back to work on the carb air box and made a bracket to help take some of the load off the strap I made the other day.
It took a while to make that bracket, but it did help stiffen things up a bit. Next I started fiddling around with the cable that connects the carb heat door. When I say fiddle, I mean I goofed around with the stupid nut and bolt for a good hour plus before Terry, who was now back at his hangar, told me he had a bnut I could have that would make the job MUCH easier. That was the ticket! So here's a shot of the door in the closed or carb heat on position.
And the knob pulled all the way out...almost out of the panel, but it's fine now that it's adjusted.
And with the knob pushed back in, the door is open and out of the way. The arrow is pointing to the extra wire that I snipped off after I got this adjusted correctly.
With the door open, the knob is all the way in.
I still need to figure out one more support for the cable as it routes under the engine. Right now it has a bit too much play in it, and it will rub against the carb too much. While I was working on all this, I was also running back and forth next door to help however I could with Terry's fuel tank calibration (didn't do much, but was there if needed)...Jack, Rob, and Steve pretty much had things under control. After that was all done, we celebrated with a 12 of Coors, and then called the wives to meet us for dinner at CJ's...the airport restaurant for dinner! GREAT airport day!!! Tomorrow Jack and I are going to the Illinois RV Gathering at Poplar Grove...should be another great RV/flying/airport day! 5.0 hours |
