In my time off from the RV build while waiting for the finish kit to arrive, I have a couple of projects lined up to bide my time.  Tonight I dragged that VW 1200cc (36hp!!) out to the middle of the garage, and took the thing apart.  Amazingly simple engine...pretty much the same thing on the inside as a Lycoming or Continental aircraft engine.  I had it from fully assembled engine to completely apart in 2 hours and 45 minutes!  This engine is actually a converted engine with a prop flange made for it.  It did fly a couple of times on the nose of a Teeny Two-

Then was removed for a slightly bigger hp VW.

That is the ENTIRE engine!

Here's a closer look at the crankshaft still in the left case half.

The cylinders, pushrods, rocker arms, and pistons.

I'm not sure yet if I'm going to fully reassemble the engine with all the internal parts.  I might just leave that stuff out, and have a display engine.  In the meantime, I'm going to take this box of parts to work to clean off the oil and grease, then bead blast the parts before painting the engine.

Just a normal Wednesday night in my garage!
