August 2005 Rudder 8/28/2005 After finishing the VS earlier today, I decided to start the rudder when Brit went on her walk with Wiley. Didn't do much, but I did cut the stiffeners from the angle stock with the straight cut snips and marked them out for cutting on the band saw. 0.5 hours 8/29/2005 I had just a short amount of time tonite, but I did cut the stiffeners with the band saw. I then laid them out on the rudder skins, and marked them to cut to length using the skin as a guide. I used the longest one to mark the others, and made a rough cut with the snips, and then started smoothing the cuts with the scotchbright wheel. More of the same for tomorrow.
0.75 hours 8/30/2005 Tonite, I finished breaking the edges of the stiffeners, and completed the angled edges with the scotchbright wheel. After that was done, I started match drilling the stiffeners to the skins 901R & L. I used a piece of plywood to lay underneath the skins to drill into and cleco the stiffeners into place right in to the wood. I made myself realized how thin .016 aluminum is by dropping my cleco pliers on to the skin. Made a nice small dent for me to work out. Argh...
