December 2005 Elevators 12/1/2005 Well my glue still has yet to arrive, so I decided to make a small modification on the elevator leading edge. Not so much a modification as an addition. I'm not happy with the bulges in between the blind rivets, so I'm gonna add one in between each rivet to close the gap. It won't add but a few ounces, and no one will see it. All I did tonight was drill the holes. I didn't finish it because my Spruce order also contains a chip chaser to get those chips of metal out of the space between the rolled skins.
0.5 hours 12/4/2005 My chip chaser came yesterday from Spruce, but I was gone most of the day, so today I worked a short while in between other home projects and Christmas decorating. After "chasing the chips" out from in between the rolled leading edge layers, I blind riveted with LP-4's to pull the skins closer together, and it came out great!
0.5 hours 12/30/2005 No pics or major progress to report today. I drilled out three rivets that were bothering me on the trim tab hinge. Re-set those, and glued the AL strips on the VS tip. 0.25 hours 12/31/2005 My tech advisor was finally feeling well enough, and with Christmas over, he made his way over to give me my initial inspection on the completed empennage. This is not the "official" sign off on the emp, but it does get recorded at EAA HQ that I'm having inspections along the way. I got "Very Good Work" remarks on the form! Thanks to my tech advisor Tom Swearingen for the visit this morning! Now, I can get going on the tips...
